Where do I even start. To begin, we initially had to cancel the first shoot due to some seriously stormy weather. Lucky for me, they had Canada Day weekend free, which I knew would make for the perfect north trek up in around the Carling area with my husband.
We were so blown away by the love and openness of Gillian, Wes and their family. Thank you again for being so welcoming, for the coffee and for the boat ride adventure.
Gillian & Wes’ family cottage is on Georgian Bay, right next to Killbear Provincial Park. I loved hearing about the history of the cottage and what it meant to them to be shooting the engagement session there. I know that years down the road these pictures will still be important to them all as it holds the memories of this very special place. To top it off, my husband came along and captured some medium format film of them, which always excites me. When shooting digital, I always strive to capture the feeling of the moment and not just the moment itself. And I find analog shooting does this in a special way that digital sometimes cannot.
It was the perfect evening, full of way too many laugh (thanks Wes) and some serious inspiration. I may have swooned over photographing Gillian in that saturated sunset light, with her hair blowing in the wind. It basically set the tone for the shoot for me: wild & free. Enjoy!
